About Odyssey Theatre
“One of the most innovative, invigorating and consistently intelligent theatre companies in Canada.”

Theatre Under the Stars
Odyssey’s award-winning performances tell powerful stories that touch hearts and minds, spark creativity, and reflect on our world. Our shows, which include social and political satires and adaptations of myths and folk tales, celebrate the human spirit.
Weaving language with masked performance, Commedia dell’Arte, puppetry, music and dance-theatre, our productions are imaginatively staged and visually stunning. We pioneer collaborations with international artists to integrate forms of dance and masked theatre from around the world.
Reaching artists and audiences across the country and abroad.
We are collaborating with the Sri Lankan State Dance Ensemble on a new production that retells an ancient myth through Commedia dell’Arte and Sri Lankan Kolam masked theatre.
Our digital series includes The Other Path podcast, an upcoming web series on Commedia dell’Arte, live-streamed play readings and online training.
A nexus for creation.
The company’s play development activities include residencies, dramaturgy, workshops, and public staged readings. We have taken 28 new plays and original translations into full production.
Working with national and international guest artists, we have provided training in: post-modern dance, Indonesian Wayang Wong, Peking Opera, Commedia, puppetry, clown, and bouffon.
We also offer internships, youth training and workshops in the community.
Founded in 1985 by Artistic Director Laurie Steven, Odyssey Theatre is based in Ottawa, Canada
Land acknowledgment
Odyssey Theatre operates on the traditional, unceded Territory of the Algonquin, Anishnaabe peoples. We are grateful to them for the opportunity to perform here, for the care they take of this land, and for the care that generations have taken for thousands of years.
